I’ve been wanting to put this together for a while and I’ve been thinking about it for so long. I’m forcing myself to get around to it simply because I myself would want to look back at this post in case I’m having one of those days where I feel like I want to shut myself in a room and cry. And if you’re having a good day, then you can make it even better by doing any of the below. I’m not saying my list will work for everyone, but it definitely works for me.
With that being said, I like to stay as positive as possible on any given day and I normally would not want anything or anyone to dampen my spirits. But that doesn’t mean I have super human powers of anti-sadness. Everyone goes through shitty days and just know that you can do something about it.
Here are my quick fixes to make you smile or laugh or smile/cry/laugh. 🙂
1. WATCH HI I’M HALEY.
This girl just makes me LOL so hard sometimes. She not only has an amazing personality and character, she happens to be a BOMB ASS DANCER. Her videos are stupid funny, and sometimes you just need some of that in your life.
2. HUG, KISS, PLAY, LOVE your pet.
In this case, loving my two adorable puppies can put a super big smile on my face. And if you don’t own a pet, then you can always head over to Youtube and watch videos of them. And if you don’t like animals…. I’m not sure we can be friends. 😛 JK. Kinda.
3. WATCH FEEL GOOD MOVIES.
I personally can watch Christmas movies all year round. My absolute favs to watch are Home Alone and Home Alone Lost in New York. I could watch these over and over again, never get tired of it, and it will instantly lift my spirits. But if you have a feel good movie you love, then pop some popcorn, grab a beer, and enjoy it.
4. MAKE or ORDER your favorite meal with a side of wine.
Cooking dinner can be therapeutic. And eating a good meal with a side of good wine will at least make the tummy happy. If you’re cooking at home, put on your favorite music or TV show/movie and have a glass of wine in the process. If you’re not into cooking, ordering your favorite meal is just as good. For me, it’s takeout SUSHI or Jjampong soup.
5. PLAN A LAST MINUTE VACATION.
Ok, so this is an expensive way to lift your spirits, but can be quite effective. You don’t even have to book it, you can just plan it and it will take your mind off things. But even if you drive out a couple hours away to a destination staycation, at least it’s away from reality. Hopefully you can do this with someone you love or can have fun with. If it were me, I would drive out to Muskoka and do a hike with my puppies and hubby. And we’ve done it before, it was an amazing unplugged weekend.
6. HANG OUT WITH YOUR BEST BUDS.
There is no doubt in my mind that chilling with your besties can be some of the best times of your life. I’ve got a great circle of friends from different aspects/times of my life where I feel the most relaxed and comfortable whenever I see them. When we catch up, it’s like old times and it feels good, feels like home.
7. WATCH DANCE VIDEOS.
Ok, this may not be for everybody, especially if you don’t care for dancing. But since dancing was part of my life for 20 plus years, I love watching dancers kick a choreography’s ass. My favorite dance channel is KYLE HANAGAMI. His choreography gives me the weeby jeebies, and he also happens to be best friends with my fav Hi I’m Haley. The dancers he uses for special groups KILL IT. It’s incredibly inspiring and I can watch his videos over and over.
8. DO SOMETHING ACTIVE.
Whether it be a dance, fitness, art, cooking, music class, playing sports or doing anything active, it will help stimulate your mind and body, give you energy and help you feel accomplished and ready to take on the world. At least, that’s how I feel whenever I finish a BOOTCAMP CLASS or DANCE CLASS.
9. DO GOOD, BE GOOD.
It’s always nice when you can do something nice for someone else. Whether it’s giving a smile to a stranger, or volunteering your time at a local charity, giving a donation, adopting a pet etc. Any small or big gesture will not only make you feel good, but make someone else’s day a little brighter too.
10. SPEND TIME WITH FAMILY
Ya’ll should have known this was coming. If you don’t get along with your family, this may not be something you’d be down for. But there is no time like the present to get that shit sorted out. You don’t want to leave this earth without having family by your side. That’s just my opinion. I love spending time with my family. As I get older, I appreciate them more and am thankful to have them around. We argue, we laugh, we eat, we play – it’s awesome. I recently took a two week trip with my dad and step mom and it was an interesting time since our ideas of travel are not the same. But we compromised and were patient with each other and in the end, I was happy we got to spend time with each other. I got to learn things from my dad and step mom they would never have otherwise shared with me. I loved learning about their past and hearing stories of old. These are just the little things that you cannot put a price tag on.
11. BONUS. If all else fails, watch THE ELLEN SHOW
Cus she’s f*cking awesome.
